Slow down in school zones

Children are still not used to being out on the roads, so drivers must beware

As children begin the school year, both they and the drivers are going to take a bit of time to get used to the need for extra caution on the roads, especially those around local schools.

However, said RCMP Corporal Jesse  Foreman, local police are more than happy to help, at least with the drivers.

Foreman said police are increasing their traffic enforcement activities around school zones to help make sure students get to and from their classes in safety.

“Traffic services as well as central Vancouver Island traffic are looking for speeders and unsafe driving,” he said, noting drivers have so far been fairly good about adhering to school zone speed limits.

He stressed however that police will have a focus on traffic safety in school zones throughout the school year.
