A road in Sooke was closed due to a small rockslide on Tuesday morning, according to the District of Sooke.
The 3100 block of Sooke River Road to Sooke Potholes Regional Park was shut down due to “debris on the road.”
The road opened to single-lane alternating traffic at 4 p.m., followed by both lanes at 7 p.m.
District work crews, an engineer and the emergency program manager, were at the slide area assessing damage and offering help to residents.
Moog said the district will also bring a geotech to verify the bank’s stability.
Meanwhile, more than 1,200 people in Sooke and East Sooke experienced a power outage on Tuesday morning.
B.C. Hydro reported the outage at 7:55 a.m. east of possession Point Road, south of Sooke Road. Power was restored by noon.
Residents in coastal and southern British Columbia are mopping up after an atmospheric river brought torrential rain and wind, while disrupting travel and utility services.
Environment Canada says the weather system brought as much as 132 millimetres of rain on Monday, reported at Kennedy Lake on Vancouver Island.
Strong winds also pummeled the B.C. coast Monday, with gusts reaching 150 km/h on the northern tip of Vancouver Island and 115 km/h on Haida Gwaii.
Heavy rain and wind pummelled southwestern B.C. on Monday as an atmospheric river made landfall.
Sooke recorded as much as 65 millimetres of rain, while many locations along the south coast saw wind gusts of 150 km/h.
Over the next 24 hours, Sooke will experience cloudy weather with some rainy periods. The temperature will reach a high of 7 C.
