Superintendent search extended

Rollie Koop will continue in role as acting superintendent into the next school year in Parksville Qualicum School District 69

The local board of education is extending the timeline in the search for a new superintendent of schools.

Three candidates have pulled out of the selection process after taking other offers, a press release stated, and acting board chair Ross Milligan reinterated Tuesday night at the board of trustees regular meeting.

As there are challenges in recruiting for the leadership role during the summer vacation period, the document states, the board will extend the search into the new school year, said the release.

Rollie Koop has agreed to remain acting superintendent and Gillian Wilson acting assistant superintendent, until the end of the 2013/2014 school year. Sheila Spendlove will assume the role of acting director of instruction until the position is filled.

• The board of trustees meeting Tuesday night was filled with interesting discussion about budget crunches, provincial teachers' bargaining, the International Students Program and much more.
