Municipal officials with the Town of Qualicum Beach are seeking the public’s assistance in finding out who was responsible for an act of vandalism that significantly damaged the local soccer fields.

Bylaw enforcement officer Don Marshall said the unidentified culprits struck sometime overnight Thursday, entering Community Park via the walkway at Jones Street entrance and driving through the children’s playground before pulling some doughnuts on the soccer fields.

The incident caused significant damage, he said, resulting in hundreds of dollars worth of repairs needed. As well, Marshall noted at least one of the fields will be out of commission.

“It’s just a senseless act of vandalism,” the clearly frustrated Marshall said. “It puts the taxpayers out and inconveniences the soccer programs that utilize these fields.

Mayor Teunis Westbroek urged residents to help find those responsible so they can become part of the restorative justice program to help repair the damage they’ve caused.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111.
