Bill Veenhof is seeking to retain his seat on the Regional District of Nanaimo's board of directors.

Bill Veenhof is running as a candidate for Director of Area H (Bowser/Deep Bay/Qualicum Bay) in the RDN. In a news release, Veenhof said he has a great deal of federal and RDN government experience and has a proven track record as a very effective Director who has delivered results for Area H.

"Key to his success has been his ability to develop cooperative teams among the many jurisdictions that can independently influence the rural lifestyle," said the news release. "Bill has focused on being as transparent as possible and has created an e-mail network that allows him to inform all on what is happening and gives the people an opportunity to share their thoughts and democratically affect outcomes."

"This will continue," the release continued. "Bill has kept taxes at their lowest levels in years, he has empowered rural areas through new strategic planning, he has found funding for many of our volunteer organizations, he ensured resident voices would be democratically heard on a major development and he helped change the Secondary Suites bylaw to more reflect our rural lifestyle."

"Bill has developed a very cooperative relationship with the Ministry of Transport that should result in a rest stop on Hwy 19, traffic calming in Bowser and Qualicum Bay and safer roadside trails."
