VIDEO: The Art of Surfboard Making

Hand-made, handpainted surfboard by Parksville couple

The splendour of nature is a staple on Vancouver Island: some like to take it in from their balcony, others during a hike, while perhaps some of the more adventurous head out into the waves.

Lorne Acheson is a longtime surfer, but his interest in the sport extends beyond the tides. He doesn’t just surf boards, he makes them by hand in Parksville.

After learning Acheson was about to start a special board with the help of his wife, local artist Yvonne Acheson, The NEWS documented the process from start to finish.
