The VIU ElderCollege Saturday Speaker Series will present the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region: Balancing Competing Interests in a Finite Space on Saturday, April 9.
Presenter Dr. Pam Shaw will help the viewer learn about the importance of maintaining a long-range focus when addressing complex issues within a finite space.
Shaw focuses her current research on the human/nature relationships in fragile environments that address complex issues relating to lands and waters.

She will talk about how the ongoing growth pressures on Vancouver Island impact the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (MABR) which extends from the top of Mount Arrowsmith, the highest mountain on southern Vancouver Island, to the bottom of the Salish Sea.
The MABR encompasses many unique ecosystems ranging from high alpine and coastal forests to intertidal and marine habitats. It is also part of the traditional territory of seven First Nations communities.
