The water is still running at the Nile Creek Fish Hatchery while negotiations continue behind closed doors to find a permanent solution to the lack of an official water license.
According to Ken Kirkby past president of the Nile Creek Enhancement Society, said talks are ongoing with the Qualicum Bay Horne-Bay Lake Waterworks District and he’s optimistic “good will prevail.”
The hatchery, which returned close to 200,000 fish to the ocean in the last two years alone, received the verbal support of Conservative James Lunney during the campaign last week, but he pointed out he didn’t have any power to help during the election.
Those negotiating could not be reached for comment.
