Woman injured in vehicle collision

Pedestrian thrown several feet from vehicle impact

Police are citing inattention for a motor vehicle crash on Sunday, April 1 that sent a female pedestrian to hospital.

The incident, said Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman, took place just after 2 p.m. on Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach when a 53-year-old woman from Qualicum Beach was driving east in her 2009 Grey Chevrolet pickup truck.

The woman made a left turn to access Fern Road just as a 43-year-old woman from Qualicum Beach was crossing Fern Road at the crosswalk.

The truck struck the pedestrian, who was  thrown several feet.

She was transported by ambulance to Nanaimo General Hospital and treated for cuts, bruising and torn ligaments in her knee.

Foreman said speed and impairment were not factors in this collision.

He said the RCMP are still investigating the collision that appears to have been caused by an inattentive driver.

“As the weather gets better you should expect more walkers, cyclists and joggers sharing our roads,” he said. “While driving, please be sure to clear all intersections prior to making a turn.”
