GRAND, Alexander Martin
December 9, 1917 – March 16, 2006
Born in Winnipeg, Alex served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in 1939. He came to BC in 1948 and met and married Shirley in 1958. The family lived in Port Alberni, where he worked as an electrician at MacMillan-Bloedel until his retirement in 1974.
Upon moving to Qualicum Bay, Alex enjoyed over thirty years of retirement “indulging his hobbies”, which ranged from building a telescope to fibreglassing a car body he’d designed.
A quiet man, Dad/Grampa left us a legacy in the items he fashioned himself, and in the gifts of daily living he modeled: the importance of perseverance, the beauty of simplicity and the capacity for creativity in the human spirit.
His life was well-lived and peacefully left.
He is remembered with love by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Jeannie (Kevin) and granddaughters Stephanie and Heather Diewold; and son, Paul (Sherry) and grandchildren Sierra and Connor Grand.
