Astrid was born on August 3, 1935 and passed away on September 28, 2010 at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She is survived by her husband Robert William (Bob) Rivers, children; Roberta Baranyai (Mike), Sooke; Deanne (John Graham), North Vancouver; Larry (Marilyn), Nakusp; Ryan (Annette), Sorrento; Karen Robinson, ON, brothers and sisters; Elsa Hacking, Qualicum Beach; Dagny Fochuk, Chase; Henry Wallensteen, Sorrento; Karin MacAulay, Banff, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and special friends Jack and Ruby Morton of North Vancouver, with whom they often traveled internationally-cruising and touring. Astrid was born in Salmon Arm and attended the Salmon Arm High School, after which she served for several years with the RCAF. She then met and married Bob in May of 1959 and lived in various parts of Canada in connection with Bob’s service with the RCMP. Bob and Astrid were stationed in Ottawa and many places in BC before their retirement. Astrid was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb and an unbelievable capacity of remembering all Latin names for every plant. She always enjoyed cooking, golfing (she had a pretty good swing), bowling and reading and was an expert New York Times Crossword enthusiast. She was a loving, caring and compassionate person who had a zest for life.
She will remain in our hearts, lovingly remembered and forever missed.
