On April 16, 2016, on a bright sunny day in Victoria General Hospital surrounded by her loving family “My Sweetie” Bren took her last breath on this earth. After complications from a routine surgery and an aggressive attack from abdominal cancer, the battle was lost.
In 1998 we fought the ugly ‘C’ word (cancer) and with the help of science & medicine, the love and determination of family and friends, especially Cyss Urban, Karen Roberts & Al Ackerman, we kicked the crap out of it but good. In Oct. 2014, it came back with a vengeance and we never had a chance as it spread through her body like wildfire.
Bren was the love of my life for 45 years. She loved to crochet, knit, garden, and shop. She was a private but special person and loved her family and family gatherings most of all. We will all miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joey, mother, Aileen, and dad, Herb Hancock. She is survived by her loving husband Tom; daughter, Rebecca (Jon) of Victoria; sons, Paul of Borden, Ontario, Greg (Anna) of Parksville; sisters, Joanne (Glen), Rena (Lane) Large of Powell River; nephews, Chris, Mike, and Kevin; her beloved grandchildren, Jaden and Kylah of Parksville, Kaleb and Noah of Victoria.
So long Sweetie. I love you dearly. Now the pain is over for you, but the ache is there for us and your beloved rescue dog “Piper” - Tom Dodds and Family
A private Graveside Service was held by the family on April 25th at Knox United Church in Parksville. No flowers by request. Those wishing to honour Brenda’s courage and her memory may do so by making a donation in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
