Cecil Kirk

Woolverton

November 4, 1922 –

January 15, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Kirk Woolverton at Nanaimo General Hospital on Wednesday, January 15th. He was the second child born to Cecil Watt and Margaret May Woolverton (nee Killough). Kirk, who lived a long life, was predeceased by his sisters, Francis and Doris; brother, Arthur, and son-in-law Murray. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; sons, Cecil, Rocky (Jean), Gregory; and daughter, Rhonda; six grandchildren, Sean (Gwen), Emily (Garrett), Zachary, Danielle, Sara; step grandchildren, David (Shauna), Sherrie (Blair); twin great granddaughters, Anna and Chloe; and step granddaughter, Kaleigh.

Kirk was proud of his heritage. His grandfather, J. Arthur Killough was a scout for the Royal Northwest Mounted Police during the Riel Rebellion. From childhood, Kirk, with his parents, travelled often to Castlegar, BC to visit his many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kirk enjoyed family, friends, fine art, barber shopping, gardening, volunteering with the Legion and the Arthritic Support Society. His work in geophysics with Shell and Mobile Oil was fondly remembered. Before his four years service in the Navy during WWII, he enjoyed Calgary YMCA, sports, and friends.

Kirk will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his friends, and his unswerving faith. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kirk’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Donations Department, 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver BC V6H 3V2

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road in Parksville. With a reception to follow.
