In Loving Memory ~
Cornelis (Kees, Casey, Neil) van der Weyde passed away peacefully in the early afternoon of December 30th, 2023 at the age of 92 years.
He was a devoted husband of 65 years, loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Kees was born on May 21, 1931, in Dordrecht, The Netherlands where he met and married his wife Johanna on September 29th, 1955.
They immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1957 to join Johanna's sister Pauline, who had immigrated a few years prior. Kees and Johanna started their family in 1960 and moved to British Columbia to raise their three children Len, Marlene, and Winn.
Kees spent many years working as a supervisor in the steel industry and upon retirement, devoted much of his time to woodworking and music. Kees was a talented cabinet maker and jazz guitarist. He spent many hours in his shop where he built kitchens and countless cabinets.
He also loved to spend time in his home studio where he played jazz guitar as well as many other instruments. Many people enjoyed his music when he performed at local venues and residential care homes. Kees was an incredibly artistic man with many stories to tell.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Kees is predeceased by his wife Johanna (Feb 18, 2021).
He is survived by his children Len (Shauna), Marlene (Andy), Winn (Len), his grandchildren Daylan, Jillian (Derek), Milayne, Janey, Nicole (Colin), Elysia, and great-grandchildren Rielyn, Everett, Arlo, Oden and Cylas.
We wish to thank Liz Gilmour, NP for the wonderful primary care that she provided to both Kees and Johanna through the years. We also wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful homecare provided by Honeylette and Anna.
Finally, we wish to thank the staff at Berwick, Qualicum Beach for the wonderful friendships and happy times.
A small celebration of life will be held in the spring.
