Delbert (Del) Rothacker Kempf

Born October 5, 1924, Passed away peacefully in the presence of family, January 12, 2012 - aged 87 years.

Del grew up on a farm in Alberta one of seven children. On May 26 1942 at age 17 he joined the Canadian Army and was posted to the 12th Field Regiment R.C.A. When it was discovered that Del was not yet 18 years old as stated on his application he was held back in Canada until after his 18th birthday and then sent over seas to fight in Europe. Del was involved in many conflicts with the enemy and was one of thousands of brave Canadians to storm the beaches of Normandy in June of 1944. He was honourably discharged from the Army on April 29, 1946.

After the war, Del returned to Canada to finish his education and became a Steam Engineer working throughout Alberta and B.C. retiring from Macmillan Bloedel at age 65. Del married twice and helped raise six children. He is preceded in death by his first wife Eileen and Joyce, his second wife as well as his son Paul. Del is survived by his daughter Kathleen (husband Bill) and sons, Tony, Mike (wife Dana), Jon and Peter, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at the N.R.G.H for their professionalism and compassion, his friends at the Q.B. Seniors Centre for making him feel a part of the family and Betty his companion after the passing of our mother who made our fathers’ last two and a half years a joy, with exciting games of rummy, trips to concerts and the theatre, great dinners and much laughter.

R.I.P. Pops. You were not only our father but a great friend as well.
