It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing, peacefully in his sleep at home, of our beloved Dennis at the age 73.
Dennis is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Joan, their children Kevin (Deanna), Don (Wendy), Neil (Rebecca), Scott (Heather), grand children William, Sarah, Dillon, Morgan, Spencer, brothers Derek (Susan), Pard (Cheryl), Mark (Kathleen), sister in law and brother in law Lori and Andy Vanger and family. Also by several relatives, cousins, nephews, nieces and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Elizabeth Hogeweide.
Dennis was born and raised in Port Alberni, where he was a boy scout, troop leader and was in air cadets in his teens. After graduation he took the welding course at Nanaimo Vocational School. He also worked for 36 years as a welder for MacMillian Bloedel Ltd. (Alberni Pacific Division) retiring at the age of 52.
He was an avid swimmer all his life and enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, motorcycling, RVing, and camping with his family and friends.
He was the matriarch of the Hogeweide clan keeping everyone in touch and enjoying having lots of family gatherings. Dennis was proud of his wife and family. He always enjoyed the company of many friends. He will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held 1-4 pm, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Yates Funeral Home, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Cancer Agency.
