ELIZABETH JOAN BELL

NOVEMBER 25, 1933 – NOVEMBER 1, 2009

After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Elizabeth Bell died at 9:00 AM on Sunday, November 1st at Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach.

‘Betty’ was born in Toronto. Her parents, Jessie and Bill Russell, moved to Dashwood near Qualicum in the early 40s. In 1948, the Russells moved back to Owen Sound, Ontario, where Betty met her good friend, Maureen Johnson. Betty began work as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone and soon rose to a Supervisory position with the company.

While working at Bell, Betty met and married her husband, Keith . The couple moved to Alberta, where they began careers with the Alberta Government Telephone which later became TELUS.

In 1989, Keith and Betty retired to Qualicum.

Betty was always an elegant, classy lady who loved to cook and garden. Almost to the end she had a quick smile and easy laugh.

Betty was predeceased by Keith in 2001. She is survived by her Uncle, Bryan Stovell of Nanaimo, by her lifelong friend, Maureen Johnson of Coquitlam, and by her friend and neighbour Shirley Hay of Parksville. Barbara Elliot of Squamish, Jim and Pat Haskill of Ottawa, and Betty and George Townsend of Duncan have remained faithful friends. Bryan and his wife, Carolyn, thank them all for their support and encouragement throughout Betty’s ordeal.

We gratefully acknowledge the professional care of the staff at Eagle Park, the extra care provided by Rosey, Penny, Jane, and Sandra and the compassion of the attendant Volunteers from the Hospice Society,

A Memorial Service will be held at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Rd Parksville, BC on
