March 3, 1926-April 18, 2012

It is with great sadness and love we announce the passing of Elsie Martha Dean on April 18th, 2012 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Predeceased by her parents, Frieda and August Balzer and brothers, Art and Billy, and sister, Hilda, Elsie is survived by her loving husband, Harry, sons, Corey (Patti) and Scott (Patricia), grandsons, Adam and Kit, and brother, Irv and sisters, Lee and Lil.

Elsie was born March 3rd, 1926 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she grew up and attended school. In her late teens she moved with her family to Vernon and then moved to Vancouver where she met her soulmate, Harry. Together they raised their sons, Corey and Scott, in Richmond enjoying boating, camping, snow and waterskiing. Elsie was an extraordinary homemaker and was appreciated for her delicious recipes, especially her butter tarts. She worked for the Bank of Montreal followed by a number of bookkeeping and accounting positions including many years with Fabricana. Elsie enjoyed retirement, skiing and golfing at Whistler before moving to Parksville where she and Harry continued to golf, travel and spend time with their family. Elsie constantly encouraged her boys and grandsons to be the best they could be whether it was school, sports or any other activity ... she was so very proud of them. Although she has grown her angel wings, she will be dearly missed.

The family is grateful for Elsie’s care and support provided by doctors and staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Celebration of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday May 5th, 2012 at 1176 Lee Rd, Parksville.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
