EMILY MAE PICKARD
February 9, 1928 – May 29, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Emily Mae Pickard. Predeceased by Louis, her husband of 64 years and her brother, Johnnie.
Mom is survived by his sisters: Eleanor (Ron) Pengelly, Diana (Jack) Stevens, June Slaatten and Jacquie (Jim) Jordan, her children John & Aileen, Sam & Sharon, Janet & John Hargrove, Susan & John Randall, Tom & Joan, Wendy & Randy McKinnon, Charlie & Sheila and Becky & Norm Skipsey, 28 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Born the eldest of six children to A.E. (Jimmy) and Lillian Paddle on the family farm near Quill Lake, Sask., they came to Duncan during the depression. Mom & Dad were married when he returned from the war. They farmed in Cowichan, Parksville and finally Errington.
Mom was an eternally busy woman, baking and sewing, gardening and painting and always caring for her animals. She was a founding member of the Decosmos Art Group and one of the original vendors at the Errington Market. She was an enthusiastic exhibitor at the Combs Fall Fair, winning prizes for her artistic and gardening skills.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stanford Place for their dedication to the care& comfort of mom.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 30 at Yates Funeral Home, Allsbrook Road.
