In loving memory ~
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Ernie. He will forever and lovingly be remembered by wife Mona, his daughters, Kelly (Mike), Shannon (Murray) and son Ernie (Suzanne) and his seven grandchildren, Cole, Sara, Kieran, Kyle, Connor, Riley and Nik.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba he was predeceased by his father (Thomas), mother (Catherine) and siblings, Kathleen, Robert (Bob), Jim, Tom, Wilbur and Maureen. He grew up playing hockey and baseball, which continued into his retirement playing for PGOSA.
Ernie joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 19 and while stationed in Victoria met and married the love of his life Mona MacDonald. During his service with the Navy, one of his fondest memories was being captain of the hockey team playing against Japan. Following his time with the Navy, he and Mona settled in Victoria to raise their family. He spent 30 years working for the Provincial Parks Branch and was instrumental in building the trails for China and Botanical Beach, and the Gulf Island Parks. Ernie especially loved falling trees and many family outings revolved around seeing trees he had fallen and trails he blazed.
In 1994 Ernie and Mona moved from Victoria to Qualicum Beach where they called home for the past 28 wonderful years.
Ernie was especially proud of his marriage to Mona for the past 65 years, his family and home where he loved to be. He will live on in our hearts as we cherish the memory of his unwavering love, sense of humor and sparkly blue eyes.
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 at 1200pm at the Royal Canadian Legion BR76, 180 Veterans Way, Qualicum Beach.
