Esther Chartrand (Nee Storvold)
May 14, 1922 – January 27, 2016
After a long and happy life filled with love, Mom passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2016, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph (1988), and by 12 of her 13 brothers and sisters.
She leaves behind three loving daughters: Donna (Pat) McDonnell of Qualicum Beach, B.C., Debra Bosworth of Ottawa, Ontario, and Lori (Art) Everett of Kingston, Ontario. Esther will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Paul, Ryan, Chris, Dan, Katherine, James and Nicole, and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Emil Storvold of British Columbia, and many nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Saskatchewan, and living for a short time in BC, Mom met Dad in Lethbridge while she was working as a telephone operator during the war. They married and later moved to Ottawa. After raising her family, Mom returned to the workforce and loved working in retail, eventually managing two different stores.
They retired to Claresholm, Alberta, and after Dad’s passing she returned to Ontario to be closer to her family. At age 83, she decided, yet again to move west, settling in Qualicum Beach for the last 10 years of her life. She loved her life in the village, walking in the ocean, surrounded by the mountains and trees of Vancouver Island.
Throughout her life, Mom’s devotion to her family was a constant focus. She had a positive, optimistic spirit, was intelligent, creative, adventurous, and independent.
She instilled in us a confidence that there was nothing we couldn’t do. She was our best friend, and we will miss her deeply.
A celebration of her life will take place in Ontario at a later date.
A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Eagle Park for their
kindness and compassionate care of Mom in the final months of her life.
