Garry Wayne EDMUNDS

June 22, 1938 – December 25, 2015

With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Garry Wayne Edmunds. Garry passed away peacefully with his wife of 30 years, Shirley, by his side. They enjoyed many wonderful years together and he was happiest in his home on the island with Shirley who was the light of his life. His memory will live on and be forever cherished.

Garry was involved in the optical business for over 50 years. He began his optical career training with American Optical in 1955 in Brandon MB. He then moved to Calgary and opened two optical labs – NuView and NuLite. He opened a third lab in Edmonton called NuCite. In 1980, he semi-retired and moved to Parksville BC then in 1981, he established Island Optical Laboratories.

In 1997, Garry won the Men’s Championship Golf Tournament at Glengarry Golf Course (now Pheasant Glen). He then decided to fully retire in 2004 and pursued his great passion for golf, fishing, golf, gardening, and golf.

Garry’s passion for gardening included bonsai and tending to his putting green in his backyard. He was an avid pool player at the local legion and he enjoyed spending his time with Shirley in Palm Springs.

He is survived by his children, Dale (Maxine), Kevin, Brent, Karen (Allen), Cathy (Kai), grandchildren Jonah, Max, Kerri-Anne, Svenya; brother, Gordon (Lillian); and many close relatives and great friends.

We will so miss his sense of humour and great stories. Garry was a man with a kind heart and compassion for others. He is now at peace.

A Celebration of Garry’s life will be held at
