With a profound sense of loss we announce the sudden death of Verne Read, who lost his battle with dementia and depression on July 3rd.
Verne was born in Salmon Arm, and raised in Cumberland and Nanaimo. During his last thirty years in Parksville, Verne became a friend to many who will remember his smile, wit and sense of humor. You know who you are. Verne was a highly creative man of many talents, who designed and remodelled several homes, wrote poetry, painted lovely landscapes, welcomed a blended family, worked as a volunteer counsellor, helped to keep an old hotel running and loved all Golden Retrievers, especially Bella.
Verne was predeceased by his parents James and Wilma Read (nee Greer), stepmother Ida Read, son Michael. He leaves Beverley, his loving wife of forty years, daughter Pat, son Larry, step-daughter Lonnie (Ed), and step-son Steven (Julie Ann); grandchildren Heather, Truxton & Marie; great-grandson Aiden; brothers Bud (Hazel) and Clark (Allison).
No funeral by request
A farewell gathering will be announced at a later date.
