(Nee Heukels)

January 24, 1933 – April 25, 2014

Jackie, born in Schiedam, Netherlands, passed away on Friday, April 25 at Nanaimo Hospital. Predeceased by six brothers and three sisters, she is survived by three siblings; her husband of 61 years, Nick; children, Trudy, Nick Jr.(Marcie), Les; grandchildren, Shelley, Cody (Cynthia), Cassandra, Dayna, Allesha, Marissa, Travis, Patrick, Cecelia, and Rebecca; great grandchildren, Austin, Zachary and little Zia; as well as many nieces and nephews in Holland.

Jackie earned her Product Knowledge Diploma in Holland and at the age of 16 was Assistant Store Manager. At 17, she immigrated to Canada to wed her fiancé Nick. Jackie landed in Whitehorse on Boxing Day 1952 and was married in the Log Cathedral on New Years Day 1953 - it was 48 degrees below zero!

Their first child came along 10 months later, followed by second and later a third. After 8 years in Whitehorse, they moved to Calgary then to Whitecourt, Rycroft, and Beaverlodge, Alberta. In 1965, they journeyed to British Columbia settling in Prince Rupert, where Jackie was employed for many years at the Prince Rupert Hotel and later at the Drifter Hotel. In 1973 they relocated to Langley, BC where she managed the Langley Motor Inn (formerly known as the Truhome Motel).

In 1986 Jackie and Nick moved to Vancouver Island where they resided until her passing.

Jackie lived for her family, never failing to love and support them to the best of her ability. She also enjoyed her Monday night Bingo with her buddies. She will be sorely missed by many.

A wonderful mother, endearing wife and faithful friend.
