James Henry (Jim) Elliott

June 22, 1928 – June 30, 2016

With deepest regret, the family of James Henry Elliott announces his passing on June 30, 2016 at the age of 88.

Born in Antler, Saskatchewan, he entered the property and casualty insurance industry in Winnipeg in 1946, embarking on a forty-five year career taking him and his family to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Upon retirement in 1991 as Provincial Manager for British Columbia of the Prudential Assurance Co. Ltd., he and his second wife Jennie took up residence in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island.

Jim was active in sports in his youth and had fond memories of playing insurance league hockey in the old Olympic Stadium in Winnipeg. Hobbies in later years were camping with his family, sailing, autumn bird hunting, R.V. winters in Arizona and time-sharing in Mexico. He had a great affection for dogs, and was a strong supporter of the S.P.C.A.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Arnett and loving and faithful companion, Joan Cousins. He was a proud grandfather to Carey (Jamie) Somerville, Stephen Arnett, Jamie Arnett, Megan (Chris) Andrews and Melynda (Scott) Winters and had 7 great-grandchildren: Aviana Somerville, Elliott Somerville, Keigan Winters, Payton Winters, Alyssa Andrews, Skyler Andrews and Zachary Andrews. Jim is also survived by his sister, Dorothy (Robert) Jokanovich and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his sons, Richard and Roderick Elliott, wives, Mary-Lou Elliott and Jennie Patrick Elliott and brother, Dr. Alvin (Phyllis) Elliott.

Jim’s cremation will be entrusted to Yates Funeral Service in Parksville, BC and at his request no memorial service will be held. A private family gathering at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens in Calgary, AB will follow at a later date.
