STOREY, James (Jim) Robert

November 5, 1924 to December 14, 2006

Jim was one of 3 children born and raised on a farm in Dundurn, SK. In World War II, he served in the R.C.A.F. under the R.A.F, and then in the Merchant Navy.

He began working and living on Vancouver Island in the 50’s, eventually moving to the Town of Qualicum Beach in 1979 when he and his wife, Jutta, purchased what was the Snow White Motel.

He had a love for the ocean and gardening, was an avid reader and supporter of history and enjoyed a good ‘yarn’ whether he was listening to it or spinning it.

He was a very active member of the community throughout his life, volunteering and fundraising for a wide variety of local organizations. He was also instrumental in local artists creating the mural which graces the wall of the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. The highlight of his year was delivering pumpkins to the children at the preschool located in the Civic Centre where he was known as Mr. Storey Book.

A great loss will be felt by all the members of his immediate and extended family as well as by the many people of the community whose lives he touched.

There will be no service at Jim’s request. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the new year. We invite people to write and bring their favourite anecdote of Jim to be placed in a memory book.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Parksville/Qualicum Community Foundation, the Qualicum Beach Museum and Historical Society’s Building Fund or any other community organization of your choice would be appreciated.
