It is with great sadness that we announce that Murray passed away in his sleep early Tuesday morning after a brief battle with cancer. Murray will be dearly missed by the love of his life JoAnn Shelton, his mother Lou, his sister Deana (Barry) Atkins, his brother Mike (Heather), his niece Andrea (Dan) and children Asha and Lennon, his nephews Scott, Myles (fiancé Stephanie), and Matthew, and his niece Shannon. He is also survived and missed by JoAnn’s family - her mother Gladys, her sister Shawnee (Terry), her brother Garry (Brenda), her daughter Sheena (Nathan) Robertshaw and children Gavin and Carys, and her son Chad (Valerie) Ryan.
Murray’s love for the outdoors and small towns shaped his life and his role in the family business, while providing a wonderful setting to enjoy his last years with JoAnn, after enduring diabetes and heart disease over the course of his life. Murray finally gave in to cancer after a great retirement sendoff with friends, family, and colleagues only 3 months earlier, altogether too soon and too sudden.
He was a great husband, son, brother, friend, and business associate, with a huge amount of integrity, compassion, and love to give.
The family and Murray ask that in lieu of cards and flowers please give to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. We would like to thank Dr. Montgomery and the nursing staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for the wonderful care and attention provided to him over the years.
A celebration of Murray’s life will be held at a later date.
