Son of John and Phyllis Gibson of Liverpool, England. Survived by Ann Gibson, wife of 55 years. Children Patricia (Al), Andrew (Shelley) and Lorraine. Grandchildren Erin,Michael, Cody, Charlotte and Aidan. Siblings Margaret (George) and Pamela (David).

John was born in Liverpool, England. He studied to become a teacher at Chester College, UK. He immigrated to Canada in 1965 with his wife Ann and children Patricia and Andrew. He was a teacher at French Creek School and later Qualicum Beach Middle School from 1966 to 1995. He received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria specializing in Art and Geography. He was an accomplished art and science teacher, well known for taking his students to launch model rockets at Turner Meadows. John inspired countless students to follow their dreams.

John and Ann travelled many places during their retirement including Taiwan, Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe. He particularly loved their travels to Greece and Italy where he would often be seen with his sketchbook and coloured pencils.

John could build or fix anything. He was an avid collector of toy cars as well as stamps and coins, and particularly enjoyed books about art history. He enjoyed writing short stories for which he won several competitions.

John was an incredible granddad to his five grandchildren. He had a seemingly endless supply of toy cars and model trains and could draw magnificent dragons, viking ships, cars and sports figures. He could create an imaginative board game in minutes far more fun than any bought in a store.

John was a man of integrity who could always be relied on for his honest and considered opinion, and his willingness to lend a hand. Rest in peace, dear husband, father, grandfather and friend. Know that you are dearly missed and forever loved.

There will be a celebration of life at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 138 Hoylake Rd W, Qualicum Beach, BC, Saturday, March 31 at 11 am.

All welcome.
