JOHN H. HOUSE

The family sadly announces the passing of John H. House of Qualicum Beach at Nanaimo Regional General

Hospital on November 26, 2015 following a severe stroke.

John will be greatly missed by his immediate family: wife Serena, sons Andrew (Sharon) and Robert (Jerry), stepchildren Karen, Ken, and Steve and all 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as the extended families of both the House and Fawcett branches. He was predeceased by first wife Dorothy [Clarke], youngest son, Scott, parents Ronald and Margaret and two middle brothers Desmond and Mick.

John was born in Kilkenny, Ireland on February 4, 1922 and grew up in London, England. At the outbreak of war in 1939 he enlisted in the Royal Air Force; his wartime service included tours of duty with fighter squadrons in North Africa and Murmansk, Russia, and North Atlantic convoy sailings. Finding his vocation in sales after the war, John emigrated to Canada in 1953, followed by his wife and sons in 1954. Near the end of his working career John met and married Serena before moving to Qualicum Beach. A devoted and diligent volunteer at SOS over the years, John was also a founding member of Parksville’s Probus club, an enthusiastic early supporter of the Parksville-Qualicum Community Foundation, and a fully involved and committed member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Blessed with robust good health all his life John never tired of meeting new people and making new friends until the very end of his long life.

He will be missed by so many, many people.

We are particularly grateful to the staff of NRGH’s Emergency department, the nurses of the fourth floor, especially Emily and Sonya, and the Palliative Care wing and cannot thank them enough for their care of John in his last few days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Marks Anglican Church, Qualicum Beach, the Rev. Dale Huston presiding, at 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015. In lieu of

flowers donations to SOS in Parksville will be appreciated.
