In his 89th year John passed away in his residence at The Gardens, Qualicum Beach. He was predeceased by Susan his wife of 62 years and his son Andrew. He is lovingly remembered by his son Dennis (Julie), granddaughters Crystal, Jennifer and Tara, as well as great- grandchildren Adrijana, Joey and Nolan.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, that is where Jack met Susan and where they married in 1951. Jack worked there as an electrician in the shipyards and then later as a coalminer. In 1966 they immigrated to Canada, settling in Vancouver with their 2 young sons. After arriving, they each began working for Vancouver General Hospital where they made many friends. They remained at VGH until retiring and moving to Parksville in 1993.
Jack and Susan were long time members of the Royal Canadian Legion, first in Richmond, then Parksville and finally for Jack in Qualicum. They had wonderful times there, sharing a pint with friends, laughing, singing and playing shuffleboard or Mexican Train. Jack's other favorite past time was playing card games and he loved them all. He will be missed by many who knew him and loved listening to his stories and the songs he liked to sing.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Gardens, especially those on the 3rd floor extended care unit during his final years.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of cards or flowers, please consider a donation to The Royal Canadian Legion or a charity of your choice.
