February 18, 2021
November 1932 - February 2021. Lorea passed away peacefully at The Gardens at Qualicum Beach on February 18, 2021 with Ernie Virgin, her devoted husband of 37 years by her side.
Lorea was an only child, born and raised in Banff, Alberta, Canada's premier national park. She lived in Banff for 40 years and raised three children of her own Don, Judy and Rolande.
Lorea was active in Banff politics, chaired the local school board and worked in Banff's retail industry for a number of years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1972, she moved to Victoria and later became a realtor. From 1977 to 1982, she owned and operated a busy delicatessen in Hillside Shopping Centre.
In March 1983, she married Ernie, the love of her life whom she met through their shared passion for the game of bridge. Lorea and Ernie lived in both Victoria and Qualicum Beach over the years, eventually moving to The Gardens at Qualicum Beach.
They spent many happy times travelling to Texas and Mexico for the winter in Ernie's motorhome. In the mid 2000s, they flew to England to explore the birthplace of Lorea's mother where she met several unknown relatives.
Lorea was an avid dog lover who owned at least eight dogs over her adult life. She treated each one like a cherished member of her family.
Lorea was admired, treasured, and loved; and her loving legacy will live on through Ernie and his family, Don, Judy and Rolande, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Eton Section on the third floor of The Gardens for the loving care that they provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of British Columbia.
A celebration of life will be held at a later (and safer) date.
