It is with heavy hearts that the family of Luella Richards, long time resident of Qualicum Beach announces her death on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Stanford Place Care Campus in Parksville BC at the age of 78.

Born on June 12, 1938 in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, to parents Alexander Charles Bonnor (1987) and Sarah Ewart Carnduff (1966), Luella was predeceased by her husband, Norman Richards in 2OO2, her younger brother, Mclaren Alexander Bonnor in 1997 (Lana Lawson); and her brother in law, Walter Turton in October, 2010. Luella’s older sister, Eileen Sarah Turton, lives in the Sunset Haven in Carnduff.

Luella married Wayne Albert Jones in 1955 and to that union were born 2 daughters, Candace Deborah and Cynthia Maxine. ln 1968, Luella moved to Millet where she started working in the Wetaskiwin General Hospital as a cook. She took some courses and became a Registered Food Service Supervisor. With that certificate, she could work anywhere in Canada. She worked at the hospital for 18 and a half years.

ln 1974, she married Norman George Richards. They retired to Qualicum Beach in 1986 when Norman became unable to work and loved every minute of island life. After Norman’s passing in 2002, Luella filled her days by volunteering at the Eagle Park Care Facility in Qualicum Beach, where she loved working with the residents and joined the Qualicum Legion #76, where she quickly volunteered her time. Luella loved her Legion and the members and could often be found helping with the Friday and Saturday night meat draws and playing and helping with cribbage. The family knew that if you wanted to talk to Luella, you needed to call her during the day as most of her evenings were with her friends at the Legion.

Luella cultivated many friendships. Long time friends Al and Vi Sewid and her close Legion friends John and Joanne Humphries. Luella is survived by daughters Candy (Rick) Burns and Cindy Jones; grandsons, Kyle Robert Burns, Jarrett Stephen Jones; granddaughter, Kimberly Rosemarie Mae Peterson; great grandsons, Alexander, Zachery and Matthew; great great granddaughter, Leah. Luella is also survived by extended family members, Barry (Chris) Richards, Barbara (Lorne)Todd, Randy Richards, Johnny, Bill, Tim, Rob, Kurtis, Dylan, Travis, Morgan, Wacey, Karsen, Brook and Skylar. Luella also has numerous nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to honour Luella’s memory may do so by making a donation in her name to the Qualicum Beach Branch #76 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
