January 29, 2011

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Malla Vennberg on January 29, 2011. Malla was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her sons Carl (Linda) and Einar and her daughter Sigrid (Bruce). Malla was blessed with five grandchildren; Ken, Nora, Clara, Britt (Marc) and Thor (Glynis) and five great grandchildren; Mikela, Danika, Alex, Spencer, and Logan. What joy they gave her! Malla is also survived by her very special friend Bill Christenson, her son-in-law Ronald Davis and three sisters; Evelyn, AnnaMae and Thelma. Malla was predeceased by Conrad, her husband of 50 years and her daughter, Peggy Davis.

Malla was a gifted and talented woman. She taught school to her children while they lived in a lumber camp, operated a motel at Qualicum Beach while Conrad ran the fishing boat business, became a highly sought after dressmaker in Victoria, and showed great skill as a portrait artist. Malla was the heart and soul of her family. She set an example of putting your best into whatever you do.

Malla and Conrad retired to Coombs and then to Nanoose Bay. After Conrad’s death, Malla became a very active volunteer with the Nanoose Bay Seniors. She taught exercises at the Community Hall for many years and raised thousands of dollars for the hall through her annual Christmas Baskets raffle. Her joy in being an active community member saw her baking cakes for the floor curling club coffee hour, selling fruit cakes for the Lions Club and being a seniors representative at the Nanoose Bay Community Centre.

Malla will be dearly missed. She lived through many health challenges with a strong, independent spirit. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care she received in her last year from her caregivers at Stanford Place, in Parksville.

At Malla’s request, no service will be held. We are all so blessed to have been part of this remarkable woman’s life and continue to be inspired by her dedication and passion for life.
