October 6, 2016

Margaret Doreen Corey (nee Davies)

Passed away peacefully at Qualicum Manor, Qualicum Beach on October 6, 2016 at age 97 years. Born in Pontllanfraith, Gwent, South Wales on June 12, 1919, beloved wife of the late Arthur LeBaron Corey. She is survived by nephew Barclay in South Wales.

Doreen attended Glamorgan Teachers College in Wales

and taught in Solihull, England and Cwmfelinfach, Wales.

She met Arthur Lebaron Corey, a Canadian soldier, and

came to Canada in 1947, following their marriage in that same year they settled in Maple Ridge (then known as Port Hammond). Living on the Fraser River they witnessed the great flood of 1948. Both Doreen and her husband were active

members of the CCF, then later the NDP. Doreen worked in

Haney Optical as an Optician until 1972 when they moved

to their beachfront property on Mayne Island. During their

25 years on Mayne Island they travelled in their 5th wheel throughout Canada and the USA. In 1996 they moved to Qualicum Beach where they resided until late 2005 when they both suffered severe health problems. Since that time Doreen and her husband have lived in care facilities, first in Parksville then moving to Qualicum Manor in the summer of 2009.

Doreen’s dear friends, Harry and Barbara Adshead,

wish to extend their sincerest thanks to the Staff of Qualicum Manor for the loving care and attention they

have devoted to Doreen whilst in their care.

In accordance with Doreen’s wishes,

there will be no Memorial Service.
