April 5, 1952 – April 27, 2019
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden tragic passing of Maurice (Maurey) Bedard on April 27, 2019 in Victoria, British Columbia.
Maurey will be greatly missed by his wife, Lesley Wise, his children Bayley Zilinski (Arcade) and Adam (Alicia McLeod ), grandchildren Eastyn and Tavish Zilinski, his sisters Yvonne Alcock (Orvil), Anita Bedard (Rich Marcine), Geraldine Korba (Ed), Simone Halley (Palmer) and Marina Bedard (Richard Baccari), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary and Joan Wise, Don and Carolyn Cameron, Ken and Muriel Anderson, Neil and Peggy Wise. He was predeceased by his mother Angeline Bedard in 2012, his brother Leo in 1968 and his brother-in-law Verne Curry in 2006 and sister-in-law Joyce Curry in 2012.
Maurey was born in Kenora, Ontario and spent his younger years there. After spending some time in Victoria and Vancouver, he returned to Kenora working for Kenora Telephone, then building his business, Inukshuk Man, selling his inukshuks all over the world. In 2007 he was commissioned by the Government of Canada to build an inukshuk in Cork, Ireland as a thank you to the people of Cork after the Air India crash. His last few working years were spent as a Safety Consultant in pipeline construction. In 2016, Maurey and Lesley moved to their little piece of paradise in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island.
Wherever he lived Maurey had friends. He had that warm smile that seemed to embrace you as soon as you saw it. He was always running at full speed and had an active mind that was full of ideas and fun inventions. He could build anything, fix anything and if a problem needed an innovative solution, he could come up with it.
Maurey so loved his life on Vancouver Island. He was determined to explore the whole island and experience everything it had to offer. In the short time he was here he appreciated it to the fullest.
Maurey was a warm, kind, gentle, thoughtful man. Generous to a fault, he was always the first one to offer to help.
Tragically taken before his time, he will be missed by so many people and has left behind so many broken hearts.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life on May 10th at the Qualicum Beach Inn from 2 pm to 4 pm.
