Mike passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Ladysmith, BC. Mike leaves his wife, Penny, of 36 years, and his son Richard (Regan), as well as many friends to remember him and happier days. Mike is predeceased by his father, Dick, mother Betty, and brother, Peter. Mike was a chef, impressing friends, family, and customers with his master skills in the kitchen. Mike and Penny emigrated from England in 1971, first settling in Antiqua, in the Carribean, where they managed a hotel. They also resided in Fenelon Falls, Ontario; Calgary, Alberta; and Salt Spring Island, BC, before moving to Parksville where they owned and operated The Maclure House Inn for 15 years. Mike and Penny retired to Ladysmith in 2004. Shortly afterwards, Mike underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his bladder. In 2007, Mike was diagnosed with bone cancer. The family would like to thank Dr. Potts, Dr. Fritsch, and Monica of Home Nursing, as well as the caring staff of palliative care in Ladysmith and Nanaimo hospitals.
A service will be held at Telford's Funeral Home in Ladysmith on Thursday, August 9, at 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of Mike's life at the family home.
