Muriel Thornbery

Muriel died peacefully on February 14, 2013

at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital

with her loving husband Alan by her side.

Born in Sheffield England, Muriel came to Canada (Vancouver) with her parents in 1949.

She met Alan in 1952 and they were married in 1956. Together, Muriel and Alan have a daughter Suzanne (Doug) Gilbert, son Paul (Melanie) and grandson Rhys Thornbery, all living in Calgary.

Muriel was predeceased by her father Frank Raynor in 1972; mother Ada Raynor in 1983; and her brother Frank Raynor in 1992. She leaves behind sisters-in-law Kathleen Tetarenko of Port Alberni ; Sheelagh Raynor of West Vancouver; and many nieces and nephews on the Island and Mainland.

Muriel and Alan moved to Golden BC in 1959 where they lived for two years before moving on to Edmonton and later Calgary. While in Calgary, Alan became a Rotarian and Muriel a Rotary Anne. She enjoyed many years volunteering with Rotary BBQ’s.

Muriel worked for Sears and Johnson & Higgins retiring along with Alan in 1991. She and Alan purchased a motor home and toured Canada and USA settling down in Arizona as snow birds for 10 years. Muriel learned to golf, play tennis, and enjoyed lots of pool time.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
