Perle (Ricki) Nickells

November 2, 2013

1926 - 2013

Perle (Ricki) Nickells died suddenly on November 2, 2013 of a stroke at her home in Victoria. Mom was 87 years young. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert G. Nickells, grandson Adius and many brothers and sisters. She is survived by children Robert (Randie), Kristin, Dorian (John) and Andrea, grandchildren Stephen (Jen), Kyla (Nate) and Haidan, and great-grandchildren Emberr & Solara.

Born in 1926, Perle grew up in the Okanagan. She loved theatre and attended the Banff School of Fine Arts then went on to UBC (where she met Bob). After receiving her teacher’s certificate from Victoria Normal School in 1948, she taught at Sir James Douglas & Frank Hobbs Elementary. During those years she also completed her BA in history at UVic (1971). Bob and Ricki lived in Delta from 1974-1996 then retired to Qualicum Beach. During her years in Delta and Qualicum, Ricki made many good friends through her passion for playing golf.

She was an original member at Pheasant Glen. After Bob’s death in 2000, she and her little dachsund Bailey (her constant companion) moved to Kelowna and lived happily there for 12 years, where they volunteered for Pets & People, visiting hospital patients. Ricki recently returned to Victoria to be closer to family. She was taken from us suddenly and without warning, but she did not suffer. We love you Mom and you will be forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be planned for the new year. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the local Hospice Society.
