Petronella “Nelly” Jannette Hillier
March 7, 1942 – October 18, 2013
Nelly lost her brave battle with MS on Friday October 18, 2013. She leaves to mourn her passing her best friend, cherished companion, the love of her life, and husband of 34 years, Wally; sisters Leny and Joan; brothers, Eric and Nick. Nelly was predeceased by her parents Lena and Arie De Visser and sister, Conny.
Nelly was born in Scheveningen, Holland and came to Canada with her family in 1956 eventually settling in North Vancouver. It was there that she met and fell in love with Wally. In 1996, Nelly and Wally relocated to Vancouver Island where they were to spend the rest of their days together.
Nelly loved to sew, read, travel and hike. Wally shared her passion for travel and hiking and together they spent many happy years travelling the Hawaiian islands. When her illness made it too difficult to fly, they turned their adventures to Washington State with its many niches, lighthouses, beaches, and state parks to explore and hike. Their local favourites were Little Qualicum Falls and Rathtrevor Park.
Nelly was a wonderful, kind, gentle person who will be most remembered for her genuine smile, quick sense of humour, and ability to spin a tale.
