Philip BURMAN - MARTIN

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Burman-Martin on May 18, 2010. Phillip is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 38 years Liz, his children, Sally Jelbart (Don), Jennifer Willems (John), Jerry Burman-Martin (Karen), his grandchildren, Courtney, Samantha, Danielle, Alex, Natasha, Andrew and Desmond.

Born in London, England in 1933, Philip was an only child to Edna and Archibald Burman-Martin. In the early 50’s, following his education, he joined the British Armed Forces and traveled to Hong Kong and Germany. He moved his family to Northern Island in 1960 where he joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers achieving the rank of Major before returning to England in 1967.

Philip immigrated to Canada in 1968; he lived in Montreal, North Augusta, Ontario and retired to Parksville, Vancouver Island in 2001.

Philip was a past President of the Ontario Brockville Shrine Club where he enjoyed riding mini bikes in parades in Ontario and New York. His other passion was the Chapter & Hillbilly Clan 132 and he was very involved in raising money for children’s hospitals.

Philip was pleased to contribute to the Parksville Newcomers & Alumni and was an avid walker and enjoyed photography. In his retirement he and Liz traveled to Europe, Asia, New Zealand and the United States.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, June 20th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at 526 Panorama Place, Parksville.
