POUL ENGELBRECHT

1931 – 2013

Poul passed away in Nanaimo Hospital, Palliative Care, on Thursday November 28, 2013 with family at his side.

Poul is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Martin, daughter Karen, his first wife, Jean, 3 grandchildren Dana, Mira, and Jenna, step sons Vincent, Ronald and Anton, and his sister Else (Kurt).

Poul was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, the eldest of three. He helped his Dad in business delivering goods on his bicycle. He had perfect attendance in school.

After apprenticing in a large department store he emigrated to Canada travelling by train to Victoria where he worked for the City, BC Parks and Simpson Sears in Calgary.

He danced to Louis Armstrong and other big bands where he enjoyed the music – a life-long interest. Poul enjoyed entertaining with singing, and Danish Smorgasbords. He loved landscaping, building fish ponds and patios for entertaining guests, as well as camping, bicycling, boating, and fishing.

After retiring he and Dorothy travelled widely to Australia, USA, Europe and Mexico. Melaque, Mexico was his favourite.

The family would like to thank all the staff and Doctors at Nanaimo Hospital, including hospice for the care and compassion shown to Poul and family.

A celebration of life will be held at the Church

of Ascension, 887 Wembley Road, Parksville, BC, on Friday December 13 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch and reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
