Ray passed away peacefully at Nanaimo General Hospital in the early morning of January 20th, 2011. He was born in Grand Rapids, Manitoba to Arthur and Catherine McKay: he was the sixth of eight children. Most of his life he worked on the West Coast as a commercial fisherman and then in the early eighties he started working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a cook on the search and rescue vessel, Arrow Post. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish.
Ray is very much missed his wife Barbara, his step-sons Rand, Jeff and Rick Hoenhous, his sisters Margaret (Frank) Ruiz, Kathleen Klassen and Mary (James) Rutherford. He is also missed by many nieces and nephews.Ray was predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Ferguson McKay and his daughter Michelle.
Memorial services were held Saturday January 22, 2011 at Yates Funeral Home, Reverend Andrew Twiddy officiated.
