GOULD, Robert Lyall

February 12, 1938 – August 7, 2015

After a lengthy illness, Robert Lyall Gould died in hospital on Friday, August 7, 2015. He was born in Toronto in 1938 and attended Danforth High until the family moved to Niagara Falls when he was a teenager. In his late teens Robert joined the Royal Canadian Navy, served on the HMCS Cornwallis and other ships, and ended his naval career as a trumpeter with the Naden Band in Esquimalt. He was honoured to have been a member of the Band when they played for the Queen.

Robert was community-minded serving with the Masons, the Shriners, and the Legion. In 2010, he was awarded a Life Membership for outstanding service by Branch 49 Parksville Legion. Robert was a talented self-employed painter and decorator. As well as being an amateur artist, he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing, gourmet cooking, and spending time with friends.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife Joan, his children Jennifer and David, Joan’s children Tracie and Bradley, his sister Grace and her family in Niagara Falls, and numerous friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Parksville Branch 49 on Tuesday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m.
