Robin Albert “Al” Kennedy

September 11, 1927 – December 17, 2013

Robin Albert Kennedy passed away peacefully at his home in Hilliers on Tuesday, December 17th with his loving family by his side.

Al, as his friends knew him, is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sylvia; daughters, Kathleen (Rob) Hodi and Barbara; sons, Bruce (Deborah) and Don (Sue); grandchildren, Jeremiah and Georgia; nieces, Roxanne, Tamara, Darlene, and April. He was predeceased by his parents Violet and Cecil; brother, Lou; sisters, Christine and Carol.

Al was born in Hilliers in 1927. He spent many years with the forestry spotting forest fires from the old lookout on Little Mountain. Al and Sylvia began their married life with a short stay in Squamish in 1955 before settling in their home in Hilliers. He worked as a carpenter, at the Pulp Mill in Port Alberni, for the Village of Qualicum Beach, finishing his working career with 23 years for the Department of Highways. Al retired at the age of 62. Over his life, Al spent many years as a volunteer fire fighter, a Scout leader, was involved with the Knights of Columbus, as well as being an active member in the Parksville Seniors Drop In Center.

Al and Sylvia’s travelling took them to England, Australia, the Maritimes, and numerous trips to the Prairies. He had a great love of music: playing his guitar and singing always put a smile on his face. Al was an avid farmer with a ten acre spread and various animals. He was never happier than when he was in his greenhouse, lovingly tending to his grape crop, or puttering in his large vegetable garden.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road

in Parksville on Saturday, January 4th at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be held in Al’s honour

in Coombs in the New Year,

time, date, and location to be announced.
