Ruth R. Mandt

March 15, 2015

Ruth Rosalind Mandt passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2015.

Ruth was born on February 28, 1964 in Karachi, Pakistan and was the only child of Harry and Rita Carr. She grew up in Laos until her father retired from the foreign service and the family moved to the San Diego area, living in La Mesa first and then Coronado. Ruth graduated from Coronado High School and received her undergraduate degree from the University of California at San Diego. She obtained a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin and worked as a librarian until the birth of her second child, when she became a full time mom. Her children were everything to her and she helped them through countless school projects and extracurricular activities. Ruth was an avid reader, devouring mystery/crime fiction and non-fiction. Although her enthusiasm was a bit dampened by the increased security, she loved to travel and see new places. Her journeys took her to the former Soviet Union, Ireland, the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. Ruth embraced the internet enthusiastically and surfed the web for amusing and useful information she was always glad to share. She was very devoted to the many pets that crossed her path during her life, giving equal love to both dogs and cats. Ruth was a special soul, intelligent, gracious and kind. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Larry, her three children, Victoria, William and Teddy and her two step-children, Rob and Alicia. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.

At her request, there will be no funeral services. Her remains will be cremated and her ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Ruth’s memory by donating to the Jacaranda Project – Village Garden Club of La Jolla or the Friends of Balboa Park.
