It is with deep sadness we announce Stan's passing. He is survived by his wife Toni, of forty-nine years, Daughter Jodie, grandchildren Lauren, Hailey and Cobe, Son Jason (Katharine) grandchildren Isla, Marlowe and Reagan. His brother Tommy (Shelby) and their children, Precious, Paris, Gilbran; Sister Nellie-Ann (Ed Kurta Sr deceased) and their children Ed Jr, Troy, Nellie-Jo and Rory. He had 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that were all dear to his heart.

Stan was born in Edmonton to a popular set of parents Stan (Pop) Chong Sr. (deceased) and Lorna Jean (Mom) Gilchrist (deceased). The family settled in Calgary where Stan (Papa) played hockey and football in school. He joined a band called the SHADES, Papa often said he really didn't have much musical talent, but he did have the only car among them.

During that time Papa married Helen Knappe and they had four daughters Karrie (Dan Hogan) grandchildren Brooke and Shane; Kacy (Tom Kinkade) grandchildren Petrea, (Baby Kelly deceased), Emily and Hannah; Kim (Jeff Falls) grandchildren Eli and Sophia; Tawny (David Epp) grandchildren Ashley & Caitlyn.

In the early 60's Stan moved to Vancouver to help Tommy manage night clubs, Stan acquired quite a reputation as a fighter and it remained with him till the end. Besides the love for his extensive family he had 2 other loves, Scuba Diving and Umpiring Ball. Most of the diving took place in Vancouver, there he found a diving buddy in Toni's brother Kim. They bonded over their love of the ocean and became lifelong friends.

On the Island he umpired ball for thirty-five years doing seniors and junior games, well known for his love of the low strike. According to his in-laws Stan was a Diamond in the Rough. Larger than Life, he cherished his family and enjoyed his friends spending many hours at the beach house after a ball game, homemade Chinese meal, or sitting in front of the fire pit with a Corona in his hand.

Stan you are missed already, and will never be forgotten, remembered for all the wonderful stories

that will be told over and over.

No Service at this time but a Celebration of his life will be held in April 2019.
