April 10, 1923 - June 3, 2021
Sadly, our beloved father, Doug O'Donnell, passed away quietly on June 3, 2021 at Arrowsmith Lodge, Parksville at the age of 98.
He was predeceased by our mother, Peg, in 2003.
He is survived by his daughters Christine and Pamela and their husbands Jake Kippan and Bill Gillan. He also leaves 4 grandsons and their wives, Jamie and Tanya, Glenn and Alison, Todd and Sandy and Grant and Chalang. Eight great grandchildren have lost their adorable GG — Caitlin, Aleah, Ben, Sydney, Dan, Reina, Connor and Jaida.
Dad was born in Kingston, Ontario in 1923 and joined the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in 1942 and spent the remaining years of WWII in England. He retired from the military at CFB Esquimalt in 1977 and he and Mom moved to Qualicum Beach.
Dad was an eager beaver and was involved with Echo Players, the QB Residents Association, the Recreation Commission and Citizens on Patrol. He also served 4 years as an alderman in Qualicum Beach. He is remembered as a wonderful neighbour always ready to help someone in need.
We remember our Dad, Grampa and GG as a kind, loving, considerate man and the epitome of a gentleman. There was nothing more important to him than family. He was so proud of all of us and so excited when the great grandchildren came along. He was resourceful. Give him some wood, a hammer and nails and he could be very creative. Give him some string, wire or duct tape and he could fix anything.
We would like to thank the staff at Arrowsmith Lodge where Dad spent the last 3 years. Words cannot express our gratitude to the staff for their kind, loving care. A special thank you to Patti and Charlene.
Due to various circumstances there will be no service. But, do as Dad would do. Hold someone's hand, walk on the beach, enjoy the beauty of life around you. And then go to Coombs for ice cream.
