In Loving Memory ~

Quietly at home in Whiskey Creek in his 82nd year, Hale slipped lines for the final time in this life and sailed into the next adventure. Born in Vancouver, he attended Delbrook Secondary in North Vancouver and UBC. Hanging out with the UBC Sportscar Club likely didn't do much for his GPA, but provided life-long friendships.

What followed was a long career teaching Tech Studies in North Vancouver and Vancouver (Sir Charles Tupper and David Thompson Secondary) and founding Windward Marine Ltd., building sailboats.

Hale retired from high school to teach sailing, founding Sailcraft, teaching many students the love of sea and sail. After a very successful local racing campaign, the offshore bug bit and as skipper/navigator Hale sailed the Victoria-Maui yacht race seven times aboard Turicum, a C&C 44.

His life after racing and moving to Vancouver Island in 2015 returned to a first love: classic British cars, enjoying restoring and driving the Jaguar, MGB and Austin Healy collection.

His passing leaves a void for many who knew him a teacher, mentor, competitive sailor and generous friend, but most especially for his best friend, partner and wife of 32 years June Arnett, his sister Bonny Jackson (Bob), niece Alanna (Steve Kolic), nephew Bryce, the McKenzie, Snyder and Farris cousins and June's extended family.

There will be a memorial service at St. Stephen's United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach on Saturday, February 10th 2024 at 2:00 p.m.

There will also be a celebration of life in Vancouver in the spring, details to be announced at a later date.
