In Loving Memory ~
There is one less light on earth and one more star in the heavens with the peaceful passing of a beautiful lady Yvette Adele Toombs (Nee: Humphrey, Van Der Stock, Michaud). Simply put: To know her was to love her.
Born in Vancouver, BC in 1928, Yvette married Andre Van Der Stock in 1948. A young mother of two, she moved to Toronto in 1953 where she lived, worked and raised three children with her second husband Keith Humphrey, until moving to Vancouver Island in 1990 to start anew. It was there that she met and later married Douglas Toombs, who sadly passed away 12 days after she, while residing down the hall from her at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff there for such wonderful care.
Yvette's careers were varied and included sales & secretarial work; but she loved her time as Dance Instructor at Arthur Murray Studios in the 50s, and later as a Realtor in the 80s. In her retirement, she became a true thespian at both the Sid Williams (Courtenay) & Echo Players (Qualicum) theatres, and also designed & created some amazing costumes.
Yvette was predeceased by her brother Ed, her first husband Andre, and her beloved grandson Jarrod Longhurst. She is survived by her children: Melanie Van Der Stock (Rob), Brian Van Der Stock (Cindy), Michele Wells (Duane); step-children: Andrea & Stephen Toombs (Erica); grandchildren: Jason Mazur, Trina Longhurst, Angela Van Der Stock, Keenan & Rhiannon Wells, Michael & Caitlin Toombs; great-grandchildren: JD, Josh, Shanon, Brayden & Alayla; brothers David & Ralph, and her ex-husband & friend Keith Humphrey. Time spent with family was her favourite time, right until the end.
There are many memories that could be shared about Yvette's 94 years on earth. In her final days she said "I've had a wonderful life, surrounded by people who loved me, but it's time to go." A cherished friend to so many, she will be greatly missed by everyone for her graceful, loving, kind presence and will forever live in our hearts.
A small casual service for family and friends will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday July 30th at Yates Funeral Home, Parksville.
