Deteriorating Parksville

When I started walking my dog back in 2002 I was living in the perfect subdivision. All the original owners were proud of their properties.

When I started walking my dog back in 2002 I was living in the perfect subdivision. All the original owners were proud of their properties and showed it.

Forward to today. Within two blocks of my residence are the following, and these are all single family residences: a house with five cars and three large tents in the backyard; a motor home wedged so close into the side yard on the fence line that the driver has to exit the rear of the unit; a very old camperized van that has been on blocks for six years and its motor is dripping oil onto the sidewalk so the owner has a kitty litter pan to catch the drippings; a newly erected plastic tent on the fence line in the driveway to cover a camper — the tent is taller than the house; a guy who doesn’t want to clean the side of his driveway so five years ago a thick black tarp was put down to cover everything; fences that have decayed so much that they have to be propped up with wooden supports and one is being held up tied to a tree; a guy who has two old cars in his driveway for three years without licence plates and sells auto parts out of his garage.

I could go on and on, but what’s the point? This backwater town has not had a town council that really cares about the taxpayer who matters for the last 12 years. There are no bylaws that will address these problems.
